Midguts were collected from female adult An. gambiae mosquitoes at about 24 h after ingestion of P. falciparum-infected or uninfected blood. Cellular extracts were sedimented by centrifugation in a 10-60% sucrose gradient, and 15 fractions were collected. Absorbance profile at 254 nm (top) is shown for a representative sample together with analysis of rRNA extracted from each fraction.
