The gene thrL is taken as the beginning of the map for the convenience of comparison with other Salmonella maps. The double-headed arrow, with one end being between pncB (at 1061 kb) and purG (at 1127 kb) and the other between pepN (at 2729 kb) and nadB (at 2783 kb), covers the region of inversion with respect to the chromosome of S. typhimurium LT2.
