Adrenaline affects expression of sodA. A luminescent reporter fusion system (pMK1lux-P sodA ) was used to assess expression of the sodA gene during exposure to adrenaline. Exposure of SL1344pA to adrenaline (50 μM) for 30 minutes resulted in a significant (10%) increase in sodA expression (P ≤ 0.05). Addition of β-adrenergic blocker propranolol (500 μM) did not reverse the effect of adrenaline. Luminescence is expressed as a percentage of the water addition control in relative light units per culture optical density (RLU/OD600). Experiments were repeated at least three times.
