The number of GH18 domains in the chitinase genes analysed ranges from 1 to 5. For those genes containing more than one GH18 domain, they are labelled from 5' to 3' with A, B, C, D or E. Clade Ib consists of members that, based on sequence analysis, do not have the ability to hydrolyse chitin. Additional gene copies that cannot hydrolyse chitin are indicated with an asterisks (*).
