  1. Anaerobic aromatic degradation enzymes in near-neighbor Aromatoleum aromaticum EbN1 are largely absent from Azoarcus BH72 and D. aromatica RCB. Protein profiles (HMMs) were used to detect the presence or absence of anaerobic enzymes involved in degradation of aromatic compounds in Aromatoleum aromaticum. The last two columns denote presence (+) or absence (-) of homologs in either the Azoarcus BH72 or the D. aromatica RCB genome of the proteins listed that are present in the A. aromaticum EbN1 genome. The ethylbenzene dehydrogenase molybdenum-containing enzyme complex (ebdABCD) is described by TIGRfams 3479, 3478 and 3482, which define a type II DMSO reductase family of enzymes that includes D. aromatica's perchlorate reductase PcrABCD subunits.
