(a) It shows a negative relationship between Protdist and the number of matches (r = -0.67 with p-value < 0.0001). (b) No match, one match and more than one match have significantly different Protdist means (Student's t test, p-value < 0.05). Protdist and the numbers of matches are calculated from the randomly sampled 1,000 cross-species homologous protein pairs (defined as belonging to the same Pfam families).
