An accelerated xylose utilization of E. coli Δ xylE mutant carrying C. acetobutylicum xylT gene. Cells were grown in the minimal medium containing 5 g l^-1 of D-xylose as the sole carbon source. The optical density at 600 nm (A) and xylose concentration in the medium (B) were monitored. E. coli ΔxylE mutant strain with an empty vector was used a control. Data shown are means ± standard deviations calculated from triplicate individual experiments.
