  1. The procurement protocol sought to enrich the targeted cell population in as short and consistent time frame to reduce the possibility of introducing external bias. Time intervals (TI) for the various processing methods of the collected samples. TI#1: Time interval between extirpation and receipt of specimen. Differences in times were due to different surgeons. TI#2 Time interval between receipt of specimen and transit to Department of Pathology. TI#3 Time interval between opening of the specimen, exfoliation of the cells and placement into PBS; TI#4 Time interval between placement of cells in PBS and freezing of cells in liquid nitrogen.
