Blast analysis of the deRIP consensus sequence led to the hypothesis that 3 helicase genes, an ubiquitin conjugating enzyme and 2 unknown genes originally occupied this region. The effects of RIP mutation have led to the disruption of open-reading frames in several of these genes resulting in multiple, short-length gene predictions which are highly likely to be pseudogenes.Back to article page
