Grouping breakpoints by pairs. Schematic representation of a breakpoint pair. Parts of the human and mouse genomes are represented with synteny blocks drawn as blue rectangles and the breakpoints are the regions between two consecutive synteny blocks. The breakpoint (A m - B m ) located on the mouse genome is flanked by two synteny blocks, A and B, which are not consecutive on the human genome. It is thus orthologous at its extremities to two breakpoints on the human genome flanking the two blocks A and B: (A h - C h ) and (D h - B h ). These two human breakpoints, represented by the red segments, can then be grouped in a pair and correspond to regions that are adjacent on the mouse genome.
