Platyhelminth MBD candidates are novel members of the invertebrate specific MBD2/3 clade of methyl-CpG binding domain containing proteins. Phylogenetic relationships were inferred from a multiple sequence alignment (MUSCLE v3.8) of platyhelminth and representative eukaryotic MBD domains (NCBI accession numbers are listed in the Methods) using Bayesian (implemented in MrBayes v3.1.2) and Maximum Likelihood (implemented in MEGA v5.05) approaches.
