An illustration of the combined usage of acid/conjugate base terminology in the GO. In the GO, ‘nitrilotriacetate metabolism’ is a type of ‘tricarboxylic acid metabolism’. This inherently states that nitrilotriacetate is a type of tricarboxylic acid. The underlying structure of the ontology now represents ‘nitrilotriacetate metabolism’ as ‘nitrilotriacetic acid’ metabolism and the metabolism of its conjugate bases.
