Changing the position of promoters in S. aureus genome does not play a role in responsiveness to novobiocin. Strain HG001 harboring integration plasmids pCG350, pCG351, pCG352 and pCG357 were grown to exponential phase (OD₆₀₀ = 0.6) and further incubated with and without novobiocin (Novo, 0.5 mg/L) for 10 and 60 min. The promoter regions of the indicated genes were cloned in front of a truncated gfp gen and expression monitored by hybridization with a digoxigenin-labelled gfp probe. Recdelsol indicates that the LexA binding motif was deleted from the recA promoter region.
