Effect of spermidine on the viability of B. pseudomallei wild type or σEmutant. The numbers of B. pseudomallei wild type or the σE mutant cells were grown in the presence or absence of 1 mM spermidine. After 6 h, the numbers of viable bacteria (colony-forming unit; CFU) were determined after plating onto LB agar. The viability of wild type and σE mutant in the presence of spermidine was calculated from CFU count divided by the CFU count of control condition and multiplied by 100. Values shown are the mean of three independent experiments. Asterisks indicate significant differences (P = 0.038).
