Impact of simulated gene conversion on the sum of squared fragment lengths (SSUF) between aligned CMT1A-REPs. In order to obtain plausible ranges for rate of the gene conversion processes between CMT1A-REPs, the relative rate of gene conversion is varied under two models and is plotted against the mean of the sum of squared fragment lengths (SSUF) from 1000 simulated alignments. Significance is assessed against the SSUF from the observed alignment. Filled squares indicate rates at which simulated datasets are significantly different from the observed one, at the 95% level. The range of rates at which simulated datasets are not significantly different from the observed one is shown beneath the X-axis for both models.
