Developmental expression pattern of the genes during spermatogenesis. (A) Schematic diagram of juvenile spermatogenesis composed of mitotic, meiotic and postmeiotic phases. Meiotic prophase includes preleptotene (PL), leptotene (L), zygotene (Z), pachytene (P) and diplotene (D) stages. Spermatocytes at diplotene undergo rapid meiotic divisions (MI and MII). (B) Gene expression was analyzed by RT-PCR using cDNAs prepared from mouse testis at different days after birth. Genes were divided into five groups based on their expression timing.
