  1. Analysis of functional enrichment was performed employing Fisher's exact test. The number of genes annotated with a specific GO term was determined for the list of differentially expressed genes (n sel.) and compared to all GO annotated genes on the array (n tot.). The resulting p values (p < 0.01) were used to rank GO terms according to their significance. Terms with more than 600 genes on the array or less than 3 genes on the list of investigated genes were regarded as too general or too specific, respectively, and excluded from the analysis.
