Photoautotrophic growth of two high light tolerant mutants hit1 and hit2 and the parental WT. Growth was monitored under control light (600 μmol m-2 s-1) and HL conditions (2500 μmol m-2 s-1) as (A) photographic images of the cultures during the experiment, (B) the biomass of the cultures (determined by optical density of the culture at 750 nm), (C) the cell number per ml culture and (D) the amount of chloropyll per ml culture with (E) the chlorophyll a/b ratio at control light. The arrow indicates the dilution of the cultures and the switch to HL conditions.
