Phylogenetic relationships among 16 sequenced samples. Taxa in the neighbor-joining tree are represented by different shapes. Empty circles denote tropical maize inbred lines; solid circles denote temperate maize inbred lines; empty squares denote accessions of Zea mays ssp. parviglumis; and solid squares denote accessions of Zea mays ssp. mexicana. The phylogenetic analysis was performed using the neighbor-joining method with 1,000 bootstrap replicates in the PHYLIP package.
