Phylogenetic tree of the NPC1 gene family in Anopheles species. The Aedes aegypti Niemann-Pick C1a protein (AAEL003325) was used to identify the orthologues in Anopheles gambiae s.l., An. gambiae s.s., An. arabiensis, An. melas (note the duplication), An. merus, An. coluzzii, and An. quadrimaculatus. The Ae. aegypti Niemann-Pick C1b protein (AAEL009531) was used to identify the orthologues in Anopheles gambiae s.l.
