Inhibition of translation induces lipid droplet growth. Y. lipolytica cultures grown for nine hours were fixed, stained with calcofluor-white (blue) to visualize the cell wall and nile-red (red) to image lipid droplets. Cells were imaged in triplicate by confocal microscopy. Representative images are shown. The area of each cell covered by lipid droplets is calculated and statistically different in all three treatments (p < 0.05). Bars indicate 5 μm.
