The number of host defence-related genes expressed during infection was specifically suppressed in a susceptible interaction with PST by 3 days post inoculation (dpi). A de novo assembly of the reads that did not align to the host or pathogen genomes from both a susceptible (a) and resistant (b) interaction was interrogated for defence-related genes. We highlighted transcripts that likely encode nucleotide-binding domain leucine rich repeat proteins (NLRs) using the NLR-parser tool (“NLR”) and genes that encode proteins with similarity to known or predicted disease resistance proteins through BLAST searches (“BLAST”)
