Geographical overview of sampled salmon populations. Resequenced genomes of Atlantic salmon from four populations in Northern Norway and four populations in Southern Norway were analyzed in this study and are shown as black dots on a map. A phylogenetic tree based on pairwise calculations of fixation index (FST) illustrates the genetic distances between the sequenced populations. 19 additional populations from rivers along the Norwegian coast were analyzed using genotyping assays and the geographical sampling locations of these are indicated according to numbers in the map
