Phylogenetic tree of Cyp26 family proteins. The tree was constructed using the Neighbor-Joining method. The bootstrap consensus tree inferred from 1000 replicates is taken to represent the evolutionary history of the taxa analysed. The percentage of times each branching was obtained out of the 1000 bootstraps is shown next to the nodes. The evolutionary distances were computed using the Poisson correction method. All positions containing alignment gaps and missing data were eliminated in pairwise sequence comparisons (pairwise deletion option). Phylogenetic analyses were conducted in MEGA4 [49]. A cyp26b1-like isoform from lamprey was used as outgroup to root the tree. GenBank/Ensembl accession numbers of the sequences used to generate the tree appear listed in Additional file 7
