Old miRNAs are expressed in more tissues than young miRNAs. miRNA age is significantly correlated with the number of tissues in which it is expressed (Spearman’s ρ = 0.51, P = 8.8e–52). Stratifying miRNAs older and younger than 100 MY revealed that old miRNAs are expressed in significantly more tissues (P = 8.8e–27; Mann-Whitney U test). Old miRNAs also show less variation in the number of tissues in which they are expressed
