Profile of DNase I-seq read coverage across genes. DNase I-seq read coverage is shown for all genes whose length is up to 5000bp. Genes whose first intron is retained (purple) have higher overall coverage close to the TSS (coordinate 0 on the x-axis). Genes with no IR (green) have lower overall coverage than genes that exhibit IR anywhere except the first intron (red) or those that exhibit IR in the first intron (purple). Note that the profile extends 1000bp upstream of the TSS with a clear peak in the promoter region
