Pyrolysis gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) analysis of the secondary xylem tissues. The relative content of carbohydrates and lignin is shown for mature xylem samples taken from the base of wild type and the PttSCAMP3 RNAi trees. The relative content is calculated as the sum of the peak areas for the pyrolysis products derived from either the carbohydrate or lignin polymers, and are shown as a percentage of the total peak area from the GC-MS analysis. The composition of lignin is further shown as the relative content of the pyrolysis products derived from the S, G and H type lignin. n = 5
