  1. For each gene functional category, a log2(fold change) is indicated and colored in red if up regulated (> 1.5) or green if down-regulated (<−1.5). P values of DEG are all < 0.01 (cut-off value) (see Additional file 1: Table S1 for values). The gene ID in the genome is indicated below each fold change. NR means Not Regulated by root exudates (genes involved are present but not regulated), while a minus sign (−) indicates the absence of orthologs of such genes in the genome
