Calcification index of larval cultures from 6 to 18 h post fertilization. Calcification index (CI) is calculated as: CI = (FC + (PC  0.5))/TL, where FC, PC and TL denote the numbers of observed fully calcified, partially calcified and total larvae from each sample, respectively. Ambient (control) and low ΩARAG (treatment) conditions are represented in blue and orange respectively, with locally estimated average (LOESS) trends represented by lines. Experiment 1 is displayed as solid lines and filled points, experiment 2 is represented by dashed lines and unfilled points. Symbols of the same type within each time point correspond to the two independent replicate cultures as specified in the “Methods” section
