Here a group refers to a set of records originating from the same organism and organ system with the same probe type. A subgroup is a set of records belonging to the same group and having similar experimental factors and comparable experiment type. Subgroups are refered to as groups in the paper since groups as defined here are only relevant in the selection process. In the end, 3 subgroups containing 9 records in total were considered for a meta-analysis. Horizontal arrows indicate exclusion relying on the criterion in the box they originate from.
