The effective population size NE estimated from LD (squares on black line) shows a decreasing trend over time, though it shows four growth peaks that are concordant with the deliberate crossings with wolves that occurred in the history of the breed (triangles on the dark grey line). The temporal distribution of the admixture events deduced from PCAdmix (squares on light grey horizontal bars) and the time intervals reconstructed by Alder (diamonds on grey horizontal bars) are also described. Square, triangle and diamond symbols represent mean values whereas vertical sticks represent confidence intervals
