Identification of miRNA mediated quadruples (Step c in Fig. 1). For each ‘cohesive’ SDP-miRNA-gene-phenotype quadruple, we perform the following steps. Step 0: Compute the BIC scores for all possible network structures that satisfy scientific assumptions. The network structure with the highest score can be considered as the ’most probable’ network for this quadruple. Step 1: We choose the SDP, miRNA and Phenotype for building larger network if the quadruple passes the threshold for the BIC-difference in this step. Step 2: Also choose the gene for building larger network if the quadruple passes the threshold for the BIC-difference in this step
