Set-up of evolution experiments inducing resistance. Duplicate strains of wild-type E. coli MG1655 were made resistant by exposure to increasing non-lethal concentrations of amoxicillin (AMX), enrofloxacin (ENRO), kanamycin (KAN), or tetracycline (TET). Two replicates of each of the primary resistant strains were subsequently made resistant to one of the three other antibiotics using the same approach. As a result 4 replicates were obtained of all double exposed strains
