Enrichment of amino acid residues at different positions within the TA sequences. To examine the enrichment of amino acids throughout the TA region, the sequences of just the TA regions were aligned on either the N- or C-border as indicated at the right and the frequency of occurrence was measured for all 20 amino acids at the indicated locations of locations. These frequencies were then compared to the frequency with which the same amino acid was found in the regions outside the TA region, The underrepresentation of amino acids at the amino-ends (first 5 residues) is a result of examining only the small number of TA sequences for which differences in the hydrophobicity scales resulted in an extended N-region (NTS and N-border) and excluding the rest of the protein sequence. A similar phenomenon occurs at the C-terminus due to differences in the numbers of residues in the CTSs. Red indicates overrepresentation; blue indicates underrepresentation according to the scale provided. Amino acid identities are indicated in single letter code at the right of the panels
