Genetic and expression diversity within Indica and Japonica accessions. a The coefficient of variation was used as an estimate of the diversity in gene expression within each subspecies. A subset of 35 Japonica accessions were randomly selected for diversity analyses to ensure that sample sizes were equal between the two subspecies. The vertical dashed lines represent the mean CV within each subspecies. b Site-wise nucleotide diversity (Ï€) was used as an estimate of the genetic diversity within each of the subspecies using 36,901 SNPs described by [16]
