Light blue bars focus on the anagen phase, while blue bars point out the catagen phase. For the HFs, significant genes evaluated through t-test (P < 0.05) are marked with the symbol (*). While in the skin biopsies (e, f, g and h) is possible to evaluate the same genes during early anagen, anagen, early catagen and catagen phases. Regarding skin biopsies, the significance of the expression level (P <0.005) is evaluated as ANOVA test and is visible in the Additional file 5
