Summary of the proposed structural composition of the BBI gene family in common wheat. Most wheat BBI proteins contain an N-terminal signal peptide, and between one and four reactive loop domains at the C-terminus. The conserved Cys residues in the inhibitory domain are listed as C, and other amino acid residues indicated as dashes. The first reactive site is highlighted in red. The numbers of wheat BBIs from ‘Chinese Spring’ falling into each category are separated on the basis of presence or absence of complete signal peptides
