The WT-boxes in the 158 bp long ATEP3 minimal promoter are essential for basal and MAMP-responsive gene expression. Promoter fragment Prom4 and three mutations in which a single or both WT-boxes were mutated are shown schematically. These were cloned upstream of the uidA reporter gene and transient reporter gene experiments were done as described in Fig. 3. Relative GUS expression and standard deviations were determined from three independent experiments with technical duplicates. Statistical differences between experiments were determined with a t-test in microsoft excel. Statistically significant Pep25 inductions are indicated with asterisks as in Fig. 3
