A wood core and SilviScan profile of wood density for a 32-year-old radiata pine tree. The cross section of wood core sampled at 1.3 m height shows the annual change in width and colour of earlywood and latewood within each ring. Wood density is the most important wood trait for the sawmill timber industry. SilviScan profiling for wood density of radiata pine revealed the distinct characteristics of juvenile wood, particularly juvenile earlywood, compared to transition and mature wood. SilviScan analysis was performed in the method of Evans, et al, 2000 [78].
