Interferon signalling cascade. Genes differentially expressed between pregnant and cyclic dairy cows in the study reported are shaded red (up-regulated in pregnant) and green (down-regulated in pregnant). The bovine embryo produces IFNÏ„ which binds to type-1 interferon receptors, leading to the activation of the JAK-STAT (Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription) pathway and the synthesis of a range of interferon stimulated gene products.
