  1. Unless previously determined (*), the eight genes used for the M. catarrhalis MLST typing scheme were identified within each genome and used to query the MLST database for the corresponding sequence variant number [13, 16]. The sequence number combinations were then used to identify the sequence type, where NP-ST and NP-SV denote sequence types and sequence variants not present in the MLST database at the time of analysis, respectively.
