S-7P may be phosphorylated by one of three phosphofructokinases (pfk) and subsequently cleaved to E-4P and DHA-P by fructose bisphosphate aldolase (fba). Alternatively, S-7P may be cleaved to PEP and E-4P by 3-deoxy-D-arabinoheptulosonate-7-phosphate synthase (pda), an enzyme usually active in creating an S-7P-like molecule from PEP/E-4P in the shikimate pathway.
