Table 2 Significantly overexpressed genes in early fracture tissue. The columns Gene and UniGene show the symbol and UniGene cluster id for the human ortholog of the sheep gene in question. See Methods for abbreviations. The genes are ordered according to Benjamini-Hochberg (BH)-corrected p-value. EST Ratio shows the EST counts from PF7/PF10 vs. the counts in the resting human bone libraries; the adjusted count ratio is given in parentheses followed by the BH-corrected p-value. The adjusted count ratio was calculated by the formula ad/bc, where a was the count of a given gene in the PF7/PF10 libraries, b the total count of ESTs in PF7/PF10, c the count of the gene in the human EST libraries, and d the total count of ESTs in the human libraries. That is, the EST counts of individual genes were corrected for the total number of ESTs in the EST libraries to provide information about the relative abundance of ESTs corresponding to a given gene. RT-PCR summarizes the statistical analysis of the RT-PCR results for the comparison between PF7 and PF10 (first entry), among PF7, PF10, and PF14 (second entry), and among PF7, PF10, PF14, and PF42 (third entry). '-' indicates non-significant, '*' indicates an adjusted p-value of 0.05 > p > 10-4, and "**" indicates a p-value less than 10-4. "n.d.", not done. A complete list of absolute fold change values for all genes is available in the online supplement. Bone/Development indicates whether the gene in question has previously been shown to be involved in bone development or fracture healing (first entry) or development (second entry). See Methods for the abbreviations. §No values were available for the 14d time point for FTH1.
