The sites under molecular adaptation identified in the insertion 1 region and in regions comprising the substrate binding cleft are represented in the CPK form, coloured red and yellow, respectively. Sites in bold are the sites identified to be under positive selection in the branch separating human and chimpanzee from orangutan. The loop D region which is important for interaction of ABAD/HSD10 with Aβ is in green.
