  1. Cultures with different biomass densities were fed with appropriate amounts of carbon substrate in order that the cells could be harvested at a similar OD600 [mean (sd)]. Growth rates (μ) [mean (sd)] were recorded; the values were highly reproducible and reflect growth of typical bioprocess phases, as shown.
