Growth was performed in MM4 medium (pH 4.0) without uracil and containing 1 % (w/v) galactose, supplemented with 60 mM acetic acid (open symbols) and in the same conditions without acetic acid (closed symbols). The growth curves are representative of at least three independent growth assays that gave rise to similar results
