An example that illustrates the coalesce operator. I1.. I7 are intervals in the input track that are allowed to overlap with or be adjacent to each other, while Ir1..Ir3 are the non-overlapping, non-adjacent intervals in the resulting track after the coalesce operation. Ir1 is formed by merging I1, I2, I3 and I4, which occupy a contiguous block of genomic locations. Ir2 is formed by I5 alone, which does not overlap with or is adjacent to any other input intervals.
