Summary of molecular mechanisms utilized during hibernation by the central bearded dragon and other hibernators. For each biological process, a tick indicates there is sufficient evidence to suggest that the process occurs, whereas a cross indicates a lack of, or insufficient, evidence that the process occurs rather than not occurring. Major vertebrate clades are identified by different colors (pink – reptile, yellow – mammal, and green – amphibian) on the phylogeny. All images used are the author’s own work
